Rev. Keith Doornbos
Keith Doornbos is full-time director of the Church Renewal Lab and part-time Coordinator of Ministries for Classis Holland (CRC). Keith served for 30 years as a turn-around pastor in two Great Lakes congregations. He is a graduate of Calvin College & Seminary along with Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Brenda, live in Holland, MI. They have three married children and four grandchildren.
Rev. Larry Doornbos
Larry has joyfully served as a pastor since 1986. His first work was at Rehoboth Christian Reformed Church (CRCNA) in Rehoboth New Mexico, a multi-cultural environment that opened multiple doors to work and collaborate with people of different backgrounds. In 1993 he joined with a team to plant a church in Hudsonville, Michigan, named EverGreen Ministries. Serving growing church plant brought the challenges and joys of managing change, leading a staff, casting vision to new members, teaching, and constant restructuring to deal with growth. Larry has also engaged in a the adventure of working as the Church Planting and Development Team Leader for Christian Reformed Home Missions (now Resonate). This work brought connections with other denominations, especially the Reformed Church in America. The work also calls for cooperation both within Home Missions and with other agencies to meet the objective of catalyzing gospel movements that transform lives and communities. In this work he become part of the Calvin Seminary’s Church Renewal Lab where he serves as a teacher, consultant and staff member on the project.
Rev. Scott Vander Ploeg is on the teaching team and the pastor of Sunlight Community Church in Port St. Lucie, FL
Rev. Elaine May
Elaine serves as the president of the Church Renewal Lab board and lead pastor of Mayfair Church. Elaine and her husband Greg were introduced to the work of church renewal in 1996 in California while attending Fuller Theological Seminary and working with Church Resource Ministries. In 2009 Elaine completed her certification as a Leadership Development Coach with Leader Breakthru. Having been the recipient mentoring and coaching throughout her life, Elaine is dedicated to investing in the development of emerging leaders. In the five years she’s served Mayfair Church, eleven young adults have completed a yearlong ministry internship. Mayfair Church entered the Church Renewal Lab in its inaugural year, which was the catalyst for turning around the 125-year-old church and setting it on its journey to mission.
Rev. Kris Vos
Kris spent 20 years leading a church plant in Schererville, IN; the last 3.5 years replanting a church in Lake Worth, FL; and through it all, training other church planters. His greatest passion is building relationships with people who don’t know Christ. He was discipled for 2 years in college and continues to invest himself in discipling others.
Bernita has been a leader in ministry for nearly 20 years, specifically serving as an advocate for justice and mercy. She is currently the Director of Volunteers In Service, a Christian non for profit that empowers the church to connect with neighbors in their community by sharing life together. During her time at VIS she has connected with ministry leaders, most often deacons, finding them eager to be equipped to more effectively love and serve for the purpose of building Christ’s kingdom. Bernita has been with the Renewal Lab since its beginning and serves as the coach of coaches and the coach of the deacons.
Pacific North West: Rev. Bill Wilton
Bill Wilton has been pastor at Sunrise Church in McMinnville, Oregon since 2001 and is the Renewal Lab Coordinator in Classis Columbia. He was on the Board of Trustees for Calvin Theological Seminary (CTS) when the Church Renewal Lab was birthed and has had interest in Church Renewal for many years. Bill also holds a M. Div from CTS and is currently working on a D. Min in preaching at Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon.
Alberta: Rev. Tom Baird
Tom is married to Janet and has two children and four grandchildren. He is the Lead Pastor of Bethel Community Church in Edmonton where he has served for the last six years. As chair of the Classis Alberta North Home Missions Committee he encouraged pastors to participate in the Lab, and went through the program himself. The journey had a profound effect on him and his church. He is now administrating, and teaching in, a second CRL cohort in his classis.
East Coast: Rev. K.C. Vande Streek
Originally from the midwest, KC has been the pastor of Faith Community Church in Wyckoff, New Jersey since 2013. He was first introduced to the CRL in 2014 and then served as the East Coast Coordinator for a cohort of six New Jersey churches from 2015-2017. KC says, “Being a part of the CRL has been a powerful experience for me as a pastor. It renewed how I think, lead, preach, and develop church ministries. Not only that, but I have seen first-hand how God can patiently and graciously renew a congregation that has a long legacy, so that it may also have a bright future in the ministry of God’s Kingdom.” KC and his wife Amy love New Jersey and their three boys.
